Making
Throw Pillows
An easy and inexpensive way to spice up
a room is with throw pillows.
They can be any size, shape, color you want
them to be. Throw pillows are great accents in any
room.
In a living room or
family room...use coordinating or contrasting
colored pillows on a couch or chair to add that small
designer's touch. If you have a large room, you can never
have too many throw pillows.
For your bedroom...throw pillows add that
decorator touch when you arrange lots of pillows at the head of
the bed.
Throw pillows are fun, because you can
make them to match your decor, or you can make them in
contrasting colors and/or patterns to change the attitude of
the room.
Simple
Instructions:
You can either purchase a pillow form or use
fiber filling to stuff your pillow.
-
Measure your pillow or decide what size you want
and add a 1/2" to each side for the seams.
-
Select your fabric and then measure the fabric
according to the size of your pillow (remembering
to include the seam width).
-
Take the cut piece of fabric and put it together
with the RIGHT SIDES together. You should be
looking at the back sides of the fabric.
-
Stitch the fabric only on three
sides, 1/2' from the edge.
-
Turn your pillow cover to right side out. If
the fabric is wrinkled, give it a nice pressing to
make it a more professional look.
-
Stuff the pillow cover with either the pillow form
or fiber fill.
-
Pin the opening closed tucking in the raw edges.
-
Hand stitch the opening trying not to let the
stitches show.
This is the simplest type of throw
pillow.
Now, get creative and put fringe in
your next one...or make a rolled tube
pillow... or sew ribbons on the fabric before
you sew up the seams.
