Buying A Sewing Machine

Buying a sewing machine is very much like buying a car. You have many different models and features on each machine. Some have lots of bells and whistles, while some are just basic machines that sew a few different kind of stitches.  For your convenience, I researched several Janome Sewing Machines and Singer Sewing Machines for your review. As time moves on, I will be including more for you.

When you are ready to buy yourself a sewng machine, it's very important to keep these facts in mind:

Purchase a machine that is comparable to your sewing level. For example, if you are starting for the first time sewing, buy a very simple machine to help you get started.

If you've been sewing for a while, you can look at the more advanced models (or you can consider using  Serger Machines to do the work). Decide what kind of projects you are looking to create with your sewing. If you are going to sew garments, you will to want to look at Sewing Machines that has a buttonhole feature and a good zipper foot. For decorative sewing, this level of machine will also be helpful for cushion covers.

For advanced sewers, there are some high-end machines that have computer programs in them to embroider many different patterns. Some will even copy and embroider a personal picture from a disc.

If you plan on sewing heavy fabrics such as duck cloth, outdoor canvas, or leather, it is important to purchase the sewing machine that can handle this heavy work. Right now on the market the 2 machines that can handle this work are Pfaff and Viking.

One piece of advice that I give to people who have never sewn before and are looking for a first-time sewing machine is to go to a local Sew 'n Vac Store or a fabric shop that sells sewing machines.  Here you will be able to test the various machines under the guidance of an expert.  These shops also provide you with lessons on using your machine and often, they have local people who teach how to sew.  This will help you with gaining the confidence to sew on your own.
