Using a rotary cutter may help with cutting out
patterns
An alternative to using scissors to cut your patterns out is to use a
rotary cutter.
Rotary cutters are used mainly for cutting fabric for quilts. But, they
can be a very handy tool for cutting portions of your pattern. They allow you to cut in any direction,
backward or forward. You can cut through several layers of fabric at the same time.
Rotary cutters are great for straight edges and curves. However, when
you have to cut around notches or very close corners, they won't be able to cut in closely. You will have to use
your sewing shears to
complete your project.
One good rotary cutter is the Olfa Rotary Cutter with a
45 mm blade. This cutter can be used by both
right-handed and left-handed people. (Click on the image for more information).
This version of the rotary cutter is especially nice because it's easy
to change the blade when it gets dull.
And when you do need to replace the blade, you can purchase them easily

In order to use a rotary cutter, you must put a cutting mat under your project. This will
prevent the cutter from damaging your pattern board or your table. Visit the Translucent Cutting Mat page for more informaton.
